1
5,3 Petroleum Hydrocarbon Impacted Groundwater
Petroleum hydrocarbons continue to be detected in groundwater samples from each
monitoring well at the site During the November 1994 sampling event, as in previous
sampling events, the highest concentration of hydrocarbons were detected in MW-2, located
near the northern property boundary.
' Although MW-2 was down gradient of the former UST locations during the November
sampling event, the groundwater flow direction in the region can fluctuate as much as 180°,
' as indicated in Section 5 1
Background research of the Jimco Truck Stop site indicates that USTs and dispensers are
' located on the property The research also indicates that several unauthorized releases of
petroleum hydrocarbons have been reported in the past Considering the fluctuating
groundwater flow direction in the region, the possibility exists that hydrocarbons from a
' release on the Jimco site may have impacted soil and/or groundwater on the Ripon Farm
Service property
' It is our understanding that no investigation of the Jimco site has been undertaken
Therefore, to define the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbons at the Ripon
Farm Service site, we recommend the drilling and installation of at least one groundwater
monitoring well north of MW-2, on the Jimco property We also recommend the drilling of
one soil bonng north of MW-3, also located on the Jimco property Furthermore, at least
one additional monitoring well will be required south of MW-3 (southeast of MW-1)
M
6,4 LIMITATIONS
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily
exercised by environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities The findings
were based upon analytical results provided by an independent laboratory Evaluations of
the geologic/hydrogeologic conditions at the site for the purpose of this investigation are
' made from a limited number of available data points (i a monitoring wells) and subsurface
conditions may vary away from these data points No other warranty, expressed or implied,
is made as to the professional recommendations contained in this report
1
' 11 a.ekpvA.aN J—
R".F%—S.—QIWII MAW i
