The plan as it was approved by the San Joaquin
t
Department of Health, Environmental Health Division consisted
i of the removal of contaminated soil in the upper 20 feet of
soil and sediment. A discrete excavation was to be centered
on each of the three
previously existing dispenser islands.
is Field screening of the soils exposed in the excavations was
proposed as a means of directing the excavation efforts.
fa
on completion of the excavations, soil samples were to
be obtained as directed by the county representative who was
;.y present at the site. Samples were taken to evaluate the
concentrations of any potential) remaining g petroleum
hydrocarbons. Excavated petroleum contaminated soils were to
be spread in lifts and aerated. Aerated soils were to be
periodically composite-sampled and chemically analyzed to
evaluate the presence of remaining petroleum. Treated soil
was to be spread over the site or removed from the property. .
'= However, at the request of the Central Valle
 Y Regional water
Quality Control Board, treated soil was to be used to
backfill excavations.
16000-250-044
:..
