These results
` revealed that the aeration process used to date, without tillage, was not thoroughly
removing hydrocarbon contamination residues. It was then decided,at the suggestion
of Dames&Moore, that a more aggressive approach, including tilling aerating soils,
be used. The original cycle of operation was to include approximately a 2.5 day
aeratiori period, with tillage over approximately an eight hour period per day. These
activities commenced on August 22, 1990,with the first Iift tilled for 2.5 days.
(Refer to the top photo on Plate 2.) Tilling activity would not include weekends,
holidays,or periods found to be excessively windy, when dust control was a factor.
Samples taken on August 22, 1990 represented the Iast lift treated without
tilling. Their sampling was directed-by Mr.Harlan Knolls at the locations shown on,
Plate 4. Their test results are presented in Table III.
i
DANIF, S %10011U
