Hwy 99
Acampo, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed
activities to date at the above referenced facility and the "UST Pit Site Investigation Plan" dated May 6, 1992
and an amendment dated June 1, 1992 ,prepared by T&T Earth Services.
I
On June 1, 1992 a meeting was held at PHS/EHD's,,office with Tim K. Smith, representing T & T Earth
Services, Margaret Lagorio, Senior REHS, and Michael Collins, EHS, representing PHS/EHD.
The following items'i`were discussed at the meeting:
1) Watering of the underground tank excavation may have driven contamination down into the
groundwater.
2) Seasonal high groundwater (according to "San Joaquin County Flood Control Maps") at the
site was about 35-40 feet in August 1986.
3) Information from soil borings drilled to 15 feet below ground surface,(BGS) would be
insufficient. PHS/EHD recommends borings be drilled to at least 35 feet BGS.
4) Since a 550 gallon underground storage tank was removed from this site that had contained
leaded gas, soil samples should be analyzed for Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl-benzene, Xylene,
total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline, total Lead, Ethyl dibromide (EDB) and
TPH as diesel.
5) The work plan and amendment submitted lacked important information. A work plan should
detail exact work to be performed. '
6) A groundwater investigation will be required if contamination is found 30 feet or more below
ground surface.
If you have any questions, contact Michael Collins, EHS, of my staff at (209) 468-0338.
Jogi Khanna, M.D., M.P.H.
ealth O r
Laurie A. tulla XEHS,
rograrn Manager
Environmental Health Division
LAC/MC:lb E
C* T & T Earth Services - Tim Smith
P.O.
