Park
was requested to collect samples for chemical analysis of the soil pile and the runoff water
which.has accumulated in the tank excavation pit. The work was performed to assist in
evaluating the appropriate disposition of both the stockpiled soils and the runoff water. This
work was completed on February 4, 1993 in accordance with the agreement reached at our
January 26, 1993 meeting.
Approximately 350 cubic yards of soils were removed from the diesel tank excavation area
as part of the tank removal and soil remediation efforts. These soils were stockpiled on site
awaiting receipt of the analytical test results. Park segregated the stockpile into three
sections and collected from three random locations in each section for a total of nine
samples. We then excavated approximately two feet into the pile and collected the
respective representative samples. The samples were collected in glass jars with teflon lined
caps. See Figure 2 for sample locations. The samples were shipped to the laboratory in a
chilled state in accordance with standard EPA protocol.
The nine soil samples were composited into three samples by the laboratory as designated
on the Chain of Custody document enclosed. The composited soil samples were analyzed
for TPH as diesel using Modified Method 5015.
Two grab water samples were collected in teflon lined vials. These samples were shipped
under Chain of Custody documentation with the soil samples. The two samples were to be
analyzed separately for the presence of diesel using Modified Method 8015.
