Hwy 99, Manteca
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHSIEHD) has
determined that the site investigation and remedial action of soil and groundwater contamination
resulting from a release of gasoline from the former underground storage tanks at 14800 S. Highway
99, Manteca, has been completed. PHS/EHD will request concurrence from the Central Valley
Regional Water Quality Control Board on this decision.
In a letter dated, February 16, 1998, APEX Environtech, Inc. informed you that your domestic well at
the above referenced address, was sampled on May 29, 1997, and the lab reported 62 parts per billion
(ppb) of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-g) in the sample. PHS/EHD has enclosed the •
lab data sheets for the water sample collected from your well on that date. Please note that 1,2-
Dichloroethane(EDC)was detected at 2 ppb, MTBE at 10 ppb, and Xylene at 2.7 ppb as well as TPH- ,.
g. Water samples collected from your well in August and November 1997 did not indicate any of these
contaminants.
EDC is still being detected in the monitoring wells at 14800 S. Highway 99_ EDC is more resistant to i
clean up and further efforts to remove it from the water would not be cost effective. The water supply
well at the gas station had EDC detected in several of the water samples collected from it so it has
been replaced with a deeper screened and grouted well.
Since the construction of the well on your property is not known, PHS/EHD is concerned that
eventually your well may be impacted and it will not be evidenced because your well will no longer be
sampled.
Please discuss any concerns or options you may have with Jerry Moore of Moore Petroleum or Torn
Landwehr at APEX. d
If you have any questions contact me at(209) 468-3449.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Margaret Lagorio, Supervising RENS
Site Mitigation Unit
c: CVRWQCS- Pat Anderson
Moore Petroleum -Jerry Moore
APEX-Tom Landwehr !
r
• L
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
