(Apex). <br /> A water sample was obtained from the drinking water well located at 14852 S. Highway 99, <br /> Manteca on May 29, 1997. The analysis results of the water sample evidenced 62 micrograms <br /> per liter (ug/1) Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline, 2.7 ug/l xylenes, 2 ug/l 1,2 <br /> Dichloroethane , and 10 ug/l methyl tertiary butyl ether. PHS/EHD has been verbally notified by <br /> Apex that another water sample taken from this well in August 1997 did not evidence any <br /> contaminants. The property owner should be provided these sample results and contacted <br /> regarding the construction details of this well . In addition, further sampling and analysis of the <br /> water from this well must be conducted. Based on all information obtained a decision as to <br /> whether this well should be replaced will be made. <br /> Analysis of the water samples from this site for oxygenates using EPA Method 8260 has not been <br /> conducted. Enclosed is a letter dated September 25, 1997 from PHS/EHD directing responsible <br /> parties to analyze samples from all of their monitoring wells for specific oxygenates using EPA <br /> method 8260. This sampling and analysis must be performed prior to requesting closure of this <br /> site. <br /> The quarterly report did not contain the quality assurance/quality control data sheets from the <br /> laboratory for the samples obtained from monitoring wells 1 through 5. Also the chain of custody <br /> for the samples collected on .lune 14, 1997 was not provided in the report.
