Confirmation Soil Boring Workplan
Moore Petroleum, 14800 W.Frontage Rd.,Manteca,CA
June 27, 1997
Page 2
The groundwater treatment system consisted of a pneumatically operated system which was
powered by compressed air supplied from the R.S.I. unit. This system extracted groundwater
from monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4 for treatment. Once the groundwater
arrives in the remediation compound via 1" diameter PVC piping, it is filtered through two in-line
particulate filters and then through two in-line, 400 lb carbon vessels. Upon discharging from the
carbon vessels, it is reinjected through two reinjection wells, RW-1 and RW-2, located to the west
of the remediation compound On November 27, 1996, Moore Petroleum received a letter from
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD) giving their approval to shut
down the groundwater treatment system due to system influent concentrations being below
laboratory detection limits. To date, the water treatment system has extracted 1.8 pounds (lbs.)
of TPH, as gasoline, and 0.37 lbs. of benzene.
i
CONFIRMATION SOIL BORING
Apex proposes to drill four confirmatory soil borings (VB-1 through VB-4) at the site (Figure 2)_
The purpose of the four borings is to verify the absence of total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPH-g); total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-d); benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX); and methyl-tert-butyl-ether (MTBE). Soil sample
analysis for THP-g, TPH-d, and BTEX will be performed by EPA Method 802018015, and
analysis for MTBE will be performed by EPA Method 8020A/8060A, All field work will be
conducted in accordance with our Standard Operating Procedures which are presented in
Attachment 1.
The soil borings will be drilled to a depth of approximately 25 feet below ground surface (bgs) to
groundwater. Soil samples will be collected at depths of 10, 15, 20, and 25 feet bgs and will be
analyzed for the above-mentioned constituents.
