It is .
our understanding that CalTrans intends to purchase these properties. Both USTs cases were
managed under the direction of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
(SJCEHD) as lead regulatory agency, and were closed by the SJCEHD as low risk sites in
1999 and 2003, respectively. There is currently no information in our files on these closed
i cases that suggests additional work is necessary. Hence we are not currently, nor do we
anticipate requesting the Responsible Parties (RPs), including CalTrans upon ownership of
said properties, conduct any environmental work at these sites.
If additional information comes to light showing that a new release occurred or that the
previous releases were more extensive than reported, we may request the RPs conduct
additional environmental work. If CalTrans' only involvement is as property owner, we would
likely.hold you_seco_ndarily Iiable_and_only_requir_e.you_provide_reasonable access to_any-
identified
nyidentified responsible party(ies). If such reasonable access is denied or if there are no other
financially viable RPs, then Caltrans may be named as a responsible party under California
Code of Regulations, Title 23, Article 11 Corrective Action Requirements § 2720 and held
liable for the future work.
