NLS§ 5.3 Table 1 below summarizes the subsurface soil characteristics encountered:
TABLE l
SOIL PROFILE CHARACTERISTICS AND
ANALYTICAL TEST RESULTS
SAMPLE DEPTH SAND,SILT AND SOIL SOIL NITROGEN pH AND
CLAY CLASSIFICATION CONTENT CATION EXCHANGE
PERCENTAGES CAPACITY
40 INCH DEPTI1 21%, 38%,41% Clay I ppm NO;-N 7.0 14.0 meq/100g
C. PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS
SSS§6.2. To assess the permeability correlated with an application rate of the effluent disposal
soils, a percolation test boring was completed in the replacement/reserve leachfield location as
depicted on the Site Plan found in Appendix B. This site plan is actually a mirror image of what was
installed. In other words, the installed primary field is where the replacement area is denoted and
vice versa. The test depth was 40 inches below existing grade giving a detailed observation of
subsurface permeability from approximately 34 to 40 inches in depth.
SSS§6.3. On December 20, 2018, the perc test boring was hand-drilled in the referenced location.
The sidewalls of the boring were scored with a pry-bar to open potentially smeared sidewalls. Two
inches of fine gravel was placed at the bottom and three-inch perforated PVC pipe was inserted in
the boring. The test boring was then pre-saturated with 12 inches of water 24 hrs before the start of
testing.
SSS§ 6.4, 6.5. On December 21, 2018,percolation testing commenced. No standing water was
observed after the 24-hr soak period. Consequently, EHD Perc Test Procedure#2 was conducted in
which testing was done over a four-hour period to induce maximum soil saturation. The test results
indicate a perc rate of 27.7 minutes per inch(min/in). A summary of the perc test results with
corresponding application rates in gallons of effluent accepted, per square foot of soil, per day are
found below in Table 2:
TABLE 2
PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS FOR THE DISPOSAL AREA WITH
CORRESPONDING APPLICATION RATES IN GALLONS/FT'/DAY
40 INCH DEEP PERC TEST BORING 1 27.7 min/inch / 0.556 gallons/ft`/day
PERCOLATION RATE/APPLICATION RATE
Application Rate adapted from California State Water Resources Control Board OWTS Policy and is derived from the Perc Rate.
Chesney Consulting
