Mr. Allan Fetters, Mr. i denOuden - 2 - 17 October 2008 4"
Summary
California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region staff concur
with the Phase II Work Plan on the condition that the following actions are added to the
work plan:
• Obtain an additional soil boring near the eastern concrete ponds, with samples to be
obtained at five feet intervals between the soil surface and the water table with
samples to be analyzed for nitrate and ammonium in the same manner as the other
soil borings.
• Before initiating field work, provide a revised Figure 3 to Regional Water Board staff
for review illustrating where the additional soil boring is proposed to be drilled. This
may be submitted electronically.
• All soil and groundwater samples shall be analyzed for ammonium in addition to
nitrate.
• Notify Regional Water Board staff when a schedule for field work is secured.
Thank you for providing a rather comprehensive work plan that will provide a good
assessment of whether nitrate is migrating to groundwater through the soil column. The
groundwater samples obtained below the first water-bearing zone will help to determine
whether site operations have affected the deeper water-bearing zones.
It is anticipated that the work described in this work plan can be completed by
15 November 2008, and the site characterization report should be delivered by
30 December 2008. If you have any questions, you may contact me at (916)
46 -4680.
AMY ERRELL
Private Sites Cleanup Unit
cc: Mr. Kevin Werner, City of Ripon, Ripon
Ms. Vicki McCartney, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Dept., Stockton
Mr. Bud denOuden, Ripon Farm Service LLC., Stockton
Ms. Stacy Guthmiller, Herum Crabtree Brown, Stockton
Mr. Jeffrey Hawkins, Isola Law Group, Lodi
Mr. John Cooper, Genesis Engineering and Redevelopment, Ripon
Mr. Paul Sheldon, Law Offices of Patrick Riddle, Stockton
Mr. Patrick Hubbard, Treadwell & Rollo, San Francisco
Mr. David Kleesattel, Johnson Wright Inc., Lafayette
