The land is currently owned by RF Land, Inc., and
between about 1960 and July 1999, the land and business was owned by Ripon Farm
Service, Inc.
Ripon Farm Service, LLC and RF Land, Inc. are currently investigating the lateral and
vertical extent of soil and groundwater pollution, including obtaining vertical profiles of
the stratigraphy and nitrate concentrations extending to a depth of about 200 feet below
ground surface. Meanwhile, soil and water sampling results show that shallow
groundwater contains nitrate and ammonium at levels exceeding water quality
objectives, and soil in many of the operations areas contains ammonium and nitrate at
concentrations that could be migrating to shallow groundwater. These results are
documented in the following reports.
• 27 October 2006 Limited Subsurface Investigation Report prepared by Advanced
GeoEnviron mental Inc.
• 25 March 2008 Soil Sampling Report prepared by Genesis Engineering &
Redevelopment.
The data contained in these reports show that shallow soil near the sump contained
1,000 mg/kg ammonium, water from within the upper sump contained 1,100 mg/1
ammonium and 940 mg/I nitrate-N (nitrate as nitrogen), and a shallow groundwater
sample adjacent to the sump (B-102, 25 feet below ground surface) contained 780 mg/I
ammonium and 910 mg/I nitrate-N. The concentration of nitrogen found in the soil, the
sump, and shallow groundwater are similar in magnitude and suggest that there is
migration of pollutants between the soil, the sump, and shallow groundwater.
California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region (Regional
Water Board) staff requests Ripon Farm Service, LLC, the current operator, to
California Environmental Protection Agency
0 Recycled Paper
