CES
GENESIS ENGINEERING&REDEVELOPMENT
Should nitrate concentrations be higher than acceptable by the City,or other obstacles for
disposal of the purge water through the City's Non-Potable water distribution system arise, other
avenues for disposal of the water will be explored, including use of the water for offsite
agricultural purposes. The ultimate disposal option will be discussed with the RWQCB for their
concurrence, prior to disposal of any of the aquifer generated purge water.
5.0 ISOTOPE ANALYSES
The purpose of the proposed isotope ratio analyses is to assist with the assessment of the
potential sources for the nitrate identified in the groundwater(fertilizer vs. animal waste) and
with the assessment of communication between the shallow and deeper water bearing units. To
better delineate potential sources of nitrogen in groundwater, the Work Plan will be amended to
include additional isotope ratio analyses. The current Work Plan includes measuring tritium and
nitrogen isotope ratios in five wells (three shallow aquifer samples two deep aquifer samples).
The Work Plan is modified to include the oxygen isotope of nitrate to the suite of analytes.
In addition,to better understand the lateral and vertical distribution of the isotope ratios, samples
for isotope analyses will be collected from five well pairs. Samples for isotope analyses will be
collected from the following well pairs:
1. RMW-ISR and RMW-1D,
2. RMW-3S and RMW-3D,
3. CRW-1 and CRW-1D,
4. CRW-2 and CRW-2D,and
S. One of the proposed onsite deep wells and it's nearest shallow groundwater monitoring
well.
Access permission will be obtained from the City prior to sampling the City of Ripon wells.
6.0 SCHEDULE
Based on the changes in work scope, the following is the modified Work Plan schedule.
Task 1 Pre-field activities will commence upon approval of the Work Plan by the
RWQCB,and notice to proceed by Defense Counsel. Driller, analytical
laboratory, surveyor, waste hauler, and other subcontractors will be
contracted and schedules coordinated for completion of the scope of work.
Ripon Farm Services 4 of 5
Site Characterization Work Plan—Phase II
November 2009
