G,E :
GENESIS ENGINEERING& REDEVELOPMENT
3.1 Soil Sampling
The direct push soil borings will be advanced using a truck-mounted hydraulic system. The
bottom of the exploratory soil borings will be terminated one foot below the soil-water
interface, which is anticipated at a depth of 25 feet bgs.
Direct push soil samples will be recovered in 4-foot long, 1.5-inch diameter vinyl acetate
plastic sample sleeves, logged, and then sampled. This drilling technique will create an
approximately three-inch diameter boring. The sample sleeves will be used to continuously
log, screen, and sample soils.
Six soil samples will be collected from each of the soil exploratory boring locations, at
depths of 1 foot, 5 feet, 10 feet, 15 feet, 20 feet, and 25 feet bgs. The soil samples will be
sealed in the acetate sample liners, using Teflon tape and end caps. Sampling chain-of-
custody, handling, and shipment is discussed in Sections 3.3 and 3.4. The soil samples will
be analyzed for nitrate concentration utilizing EPA method 300.1 and ammonia utilizing
EPA method E350.1.
New disposable gloves and acetate liners will be used for each different four foot sample
sleeve. The sample sleeve will be placed on plastic and the cutting tool decontaminated
between samples for the remainder of the sampling. Decontamination of the sample probe
will occur between each sample and the push rods will be decontaminated between each
borehole (Section 2.4).
3.2 Direct Push Groundwater Sampling
Groundwater grab samples will be collected from the deep exploratory boring at the
soil/water interface and from depths of 55-60 feet, 105-108 feet, 153-157 feet, and 192-195
feet bgs. These depth intervals correspond to the intervals where coarser grained material
(sand and gravel) are present at the onsite production well.
Groundwater samples will be collected utilizing direct push sampling technology by driving
the sampling assembly into the selected depth interval and pulling back the sampling rod to
expose the disposable PVC well point. A stainless steel or disposable bailer will be lowered
through the center of the sampling assembly and a grab groundwater sample will be
collected. The sample will be decanted from the bailer into laboratory-supplied glass
containers.
All samples will be immediately labeled and placed on ice after sample collection. The
samples will be filtered(through a 0.45 micron filter)by the laboratory and tested for nitrate
Ripon Farm Services,Inc. 9 Of 15
Sampling and Analysis Plan
July 2009
