Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Re: Franzia Brothers Winery, Site Code 1946, 1700
East Highway 120, Ripon, CA
Dear Linda:
This letter report updates the activities at Franzia Brothers
Winery (Figure 1 ) during the second quarter of 1991 and addresses
the Environmental Health Division' s request (April 9, 1991 ) that
two additional wells be installed. Activities at the site included
monitoring of groundwater and sampling for dissolved hydrocarbons
from monitoring well one (MW1 ) .
Groundwater monitoring data shows the groundwater table 'has
remained approximately the same since the February 1991 monitoring
(Table 1 ) . Depth to water was 47. 67 feet below grade on May 2,
1991.
A groundwater sample was collected and analyzed for benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (rBTEX) and total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG) . Applied Analytical (DOHS # 1211 )
performed the analysis. The laboratory results reported that BTEX
and TPHG were not detected above method detection limits (Table 2) .
The laboratory report' and chain-of-custody documentation are
presented in Attachment 1 .
In the County' s request for two additional monitoring wells, the
reasons cited for the additional wells were 1 ) , to determine
groundwater gradient, and 2) , to determine the extent of
groundwater contamination. We reviewed the groundwater gradient
maps prepared by the (San Joaquin. County Flood Control District for
the .period of Fall of 1975 to the Fall- of .1990'. The maps show a
consistent north gradient direction. The depth to water was
approximately 40-50 feet below grade, except in the Fall of- 1975—
where the water table rose to 30-40 feet. The location of
monitoring well tMW1 Was initially selected to be in the down
gradient. direct do `off'"-"theme highest soil contamination nand was
(`•'approved by your office.
FWLR0618.wp
1710 MAIN STREET .
