,► HORIZ __ N ENVIRONMEN SAL INC.
Specialists in Site Assessment,Remedial Testing,Design and Operation
February 8, 1999
Mr. Mike Karvelot
Quik Stop Markets Inc.
4567 Enterprise Street
Fremont, California 94538
Subject: Tank Closure Report
Quik Stop Station No. 076
1030 South Olive Avenue, Stockton, California
Mr. Karvelot:
As requested, Horizon Environmental Inc. (Horizon) conducted soil sampling activities and
environmental oversight related to underground storage tank (UST) removal operations at
the above-referenced site (see Figure 1). Tasks included being present on the site to observe
removal of the existing USTs, collecting native soil samples as required by the San Joaquin
County Public Health Services/Environmental Health Division (SJCPHS/EHD), submitting
soil samples to a State-certified laboratory for the requested analyses, and the preparation of
this Tank Closure Repo .
The purpose of the investigation was to evaluate for the presence of possible gasoline fuel
hydrocarbons in the soil during UST removal activities. Environmental field work was
conducted on October 29, 1998 utilizing Horizon Field Methods and Procedures (included as
Attachment A), and in accordance with the Horizon Site Safety Plan dated October 26, 1998.
UST removal and soil excavation were performed by Walton Engineering (Walton) of West
Sacramento, California.
UST Removal and Sampling Activities
The location of the Quik Stop market building, two former USTs, former dispenser island,
and other pertinent site features are shown on the Site Plan (Figure 2). USTs T-1 and T-2
(from west to east), were both of single-walled, steel construction with 10,000-gallon
capacities, and located in the middle area of the station property. Tank T-1 was reportedly
used to store unleaded gasoline and tank T-2 was reportedly used to store leaded gasoline.
The pump dispenser island was located immediately adjacent to the south ends of the two
USTs. On October 29, 1998, Ms. Letitia Briggs of the SJCPHS/EHD and Mr. K. Miller of
the City of Stockton Fire Department were onsite to observe the UST removal and transport
activities. Upon removal, the USTs appeared to be in very good condition with no
5011 Golden Foothill Parkway,suite 7 .
