Quik Stop Station No. 076 SITE CODE 887
1030 South Olive Avenue RO: 887
Stockton, CA 95215
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed Results of
Soil and Groundwater Investigation, dated 25 June 2002, and submitted on your behalf
by Horizon Environmental Inc. (Horizon). Petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in
groundwater samples collected from soil borings SB-1, SB-2, and SB-3; soil samples
collected from these three borings had less than detectable concentrations of fuel
components.
EHD does not concur with Horizon's recommendation for"no further action" status for
the subject site, but has determined that further site investigation is necessary to assess
the lateral extent of impacted groundwater in the silty sand encountered at sixty-five feet
below surface grade (bsg). EHD recommends that a minimum of three groundwater
monitoring wells be installed to assess the lateral extent of impacted groundwater.
You are hereby directed to submit a work plan by 28 April 2003 to conduct the necessa
additional site characterization.
Construct monitoring wells at the site to assess the impact to groundwater resulting from
the unauthorized release of fuel hydrocarbons on the site and establish the groundwater
gradient. Monitoring wells should be screened at an interval representative of the
affected groundwater. Groundwater samples should be analyzed quarterly for total
petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline by Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)
method 8015B; TPH as diesel by EPA method 8015B; benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and xylenes (BTEX)by EPA method 8021; and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE),
tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether
(ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME), ethylene dibromide (EDB), 1,2-
dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), ethanol, and methanol, by EPA method 8260B. Quarterly
monitoring should continue until further direction from EHD.
