19 April 1999
AGE-NC Project No 96-0229
Ground water monitoring data collected in the area of wells MW-1 through MW-10 indicated that
' the ground water flow direction was generally toward the northeast ata Era dient of 0 002 ft/ft, or
approximately I I feet per mile (Figure 3) Ground water was approximately 5 to 7 feet above the
screened intervals in monitoring wells MW-3 and MW-4, ground water was approximately 24 to 26
feet above the screen intervals at MW-I and MWIO-B Therefore these wells are "drowned", and
do not yield samples representative of shallow ground water
32 LABORATORY RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
A total of eleven ground water samples were submitted to a DHS-certified laboratory in April 1999
Utilizing EPA Method 8015M, TPH-g was detected in water samples collected from wells MW-1
Ithrough MW-4, MW-6, MW-7, MW-8 and MW-9 at concentrations ranging up to 88,000
micrograms per liter (µg/1)
UtilizingEPA Method 8020 BTEX compounds were detected in Lound water samples collected
 p g p
from wells MW-1 through MW-8 and MW-IOB at concentrations ranging as high as 12,000 4g/l
(xylenes, MW-2) The greatest benzene concentration was detected in the sample collected from well
MW-1 (screened from 48 to 53 feet bsg) at a concentration of 2,800 ug/1 M CBE was detected in
ground water samples collected from wells MW-1, MW-7 and MW-8 at concentrations ranging as
high as 350 ptgl1
MTBE was confirmed utilizing EPA Method 8260 from wells MW-1, MW-6, MW-7 and MW-8 at
concentrations ranging as high as 310 1--ig/l, TAME was detected in the ground water sample
collected from well MW-7 at a concentration of 1 2 Mcg/1, TBA was detected in ground water samples
collected fiom wells MW-7 and MW-9 at concentrations ranging as high as 36 ,ug/l No other fuel
oxygenated additives were detected above laboratory repoitinng limits from the analyzed samples
Analytical results of the ground water samples are summaiized in Table 2 The laboratory reports
(Castle Analytical Laboratory Refeience No 2213 and McCampbell Analytical Inc I D No 09602
through 09612) and chain-of-custody forms are presented in Appendix B
40 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
Based on the results of ground water monitoring and sampling activities performed in April 1999,
AGE concludes
• Ground water monitoringdata collected in the area of wells MW-1 through MW-10 indicated
g
a giound water flow direction generally toward the northeast at a gradient of 0 002 ft/ft Due
ArhnrrculGcol;tronmental,nuc
