The approved scope of work was discussed In War& Plan — Soil and Groundwater
Grverligation, dated January 2, 1998, prepared by Condor. Pro-Approval of the corrective action costs
was received from the UST-CF in a letter dated April 9, 1998. This letter is being provided to assist you
and the UST Clean-up Fund in understanding the additional costs.
The original cost estimate was for $ 11 .705.75 , Condor and its subcontractors have billed approximately
S 13,584.90 to date. The additional costs are primarily due to increased drilling and reporting time
required to collect and report soil vapor samples during the installation of the soil borings. The sole
purpose of the work conducted during this phase of the investigation was to collect enough information to
justify to the UST CIean-up Fund that the installation of the approved interim soil vapor extraction was
feasible. Both Ron Rowe, of the San Joaquin County PHSIEHD and Condor agreed that the collection of
soil gas samples would be instrumental in providing greatly needed data. A break down of the additional
work completed by Condor is listed below. The list corresponds with the April 1 , 1998 Cost Estimate,
attached.
Task 1 Prepare for Field Work;
Additional work included:
Two site visits to review construction plans, to insure that drilling will not damage UST
system.
One site visit with drilling contractor to ensure that selected boring locations could be
installed in the tight quarters.
Task 2 Borings — Soil & Groundwater Sampling:
Additional work included:
Collection of 5 soil gas samples.
Estimated geologist time was 24 hours, actual geologist time was 32.5 hours
Due to the thickness of the concrete, a concrete cutter was required.
Task 3 — Laboratory Analysis (Soil and Groundwater):
Remo Canepa
July 14. 1998
Page 2 ot2
Task 4 — Investigation Report:
Additional work included:
Additional 6 hours of draftsman time.
Additional 9. 5 hours of geologists reporting time due to complex geology and large
amount of data.
