1
Canepa Is Car Wash
6230 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California
Groundwater Pump Test
I
r
1.0 Project Identification
' The Canepa's Car Wash has been required to install groundwater monitoring wells as a result
of an on-site fuel line leak These wells will provide groundwater gradient information and
' help to define the extent of the contamination plume in the soil and groundwater The request
for a Groundwater Pump Test was made by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department, and is a part of an on-going site investigation
tAfter the addition of four more monitoring wells in March, 1994, a mound in the groundwater
table became apparent during three subsequent sampling events This Test was performed to
gather aquifer parameters that will be needed to plan an effective corrective action plan for the
groundwater contamination
2.0 Site Description and History
Canepa's Car Wash has been operating at this site for nearly 20 years (Figure 1) Between
February 25 and March 3 of 1993, three (3) underground fuel tanks, fuel fines and dispensers
were removed in order to replace them with the required double wall system It was
discovered that the fuel lines had leaked and that the tanks had apparently been over-filled
Approximately 600 cubic yards of soil were removed from the tank excavation area The souls
were tested by a certified laboratory and transported under manifest as a non-hazardous waste
to Forward Landfill in Stockton, California for disposal Forward Landfill is a properly
licensed CIass II disposal facility to receive soils of this nature and level of contamination
The site has had a single soil boring installed to the groundwater table that showed the
groundwater had been impacted There is also a network of nine soil vapor extraction wells
installed under the dispenser island, and a combustion system installed under the Authority To
Construct from San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District to treat the soil
contamination The excavated soil and drill cuttings from all borings were stockpiled on site,
charactenzed and shipped for disposal
Between September 28 and 30, 1993, WHF, Inc , installed four 4groundwater monitoring
wells at this site (Figure 2) MW-1, a four-inch (4") monitoring well, was installed
immediately east of the soil vapor extraction well network MW-1 also has the potential to be
used as an extraction well MW-2, a two-inch (2") monitoring well, was installed in the alley
immediately south of the soil vapor extraction well network MW-3, a two-inch (2")
monitoring well, was installed at the southeast corner of the main building near the vacuum
