WHF Environmental .onsultants, Inc.
Sampling Protocol
Page: 4
to commencement of sampling. De-ionized water (also provided by the
laboratory) will be introduced into the bailer as a final stage of
cleaning. This water will then be gently poured into the sample vial to
be used as a bailer blank. This blank will be tested if contaminents
AeZ are found in the well sample.
f A travel blank provided by the laboratory willaccompany the.sample
vials from the time they are picked up from the lab to the time they are
r delivered to the lab. This travel blank will be listed on the Chain of
Custody but not analyzed ifresults of the bailer blank are negative. .
_ Immediately prior to sampling, water levels and well depth
measurements will be taken in the well. The well will be evacuated
L. using a stainless steel bladder pump, which does not introduce air into
the water column. The pH, temperature, and electrical conductivity of
the water will be monitored as the well is.evacuated. These
parameters are will be noted on a field log and submitted as a part of
the quarterly reports. The instruments used to measure the analytes
will be calibrated using known standards for each analyte. . At least 5
well volumes will be evacuated from the well until the above
parameters-are stabilized. 'The samples will be transfered from a
Teflon bailer into a clean glass vial with a Teflon-lined screw cap.
provided by the laboratory. Care will be taken to ensure that no air
space exists in the vials by inverting it, to check for bubbles and re-
sampling if necessary. The sample will be analyzed within 14 days
using EPA methods and holding time protocols.. Water samples
collected for analysis will be analyzed using EPA method 602 for
' purgeable aromatics and EPA method 8015 modified for total
-.. petroleum hydrocarbons, as referenced in Solid Waste Method SW 846.
!
L
r
