Permit N-3529-1-0
Unocal Service Station 2859
1665 Pacific Avenue
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Chan.
On behalf of Unocal Corporation (Unocal), Pacific Environmental Group, Inc. (PACIFIC)
is operating a soil vapor extraction and treatment system at the site referenced above_. This
submittal is to inform the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District
(SJVUAPCD) of the remedial system's current status.
Samples taken on October 23, 1996 showed a destruction efficiency of approximately
73 percent, with TPPH-gasoline emissions of 4.6 pounds per day. This does not satisfy the
permit limitation of 95 percent destruction efficiency or less than 2 pounds per day.
Confirmation samples were taken on November 6, 1996 and the system was shut dove.
Results of the confirmation samples show that the system is not fulfilling SJVUAPCD
permit requirements, with a destruction efficiency of 88 percent, and TPPH-gasoline
emissions oft-45 pounds per day.
The system has been shut down following completion of a long-term SVE feasibility test
at the site. PACIFIC and Unocal will be reviewing the results of the SVE test with San
Joaquin County Pubfic Health Services and will notify you if the system will be restarted.
2025 Gateway Place, Suite 440, San Jose, California 95110 (408)441-7500 FAX (408) 441-7539
