It is unfortunate that neither you nor any Unocal <br /> representative chose to attend the Adbministrative Office Hearing scheduled by EHD for Jtriy 10, <br /> 1997. This meeting was appropriately set up and timely notice was given to the proper <br /> responsible Unocal pezrotuael for each site. Although the agency had already given notice to <br /> these contact persons,I made a courtesy call to inf6ml Ms_ Allaiu of the[wring and to discuss <br /> our previously-referred case on the 2701 March Law:site. The hearing was purposely scheduled <br /> to occur before my vacation, which begins July 18,as I informed both Ms.Allain and yourself. <br /> When we spoke the week prior to July 10, you said that since Ms. Allain was going to be on <br /> vacation on Judy 10,that you were taking the lead and would be the person attending the hearing. <br /> in your letter dated July 9, However, you are trying to make it sound as though.EHD is being. <br /> unreasonable in expecting someone from the Unocal organization to be able to attend a properly <br /> scheduled office hearin& You,however, are the one who claimed to be unable to attend. <br /> Several individuals from both offices spent substantial time preparing for that zmecting and were <br /> present at the scheduled time and place. <br /> Our office would be glad to meet with you oa all sites that have been referred to us,once we <br /> have waiver/release documentation that you represent Unocal,Tosco,and any other"7b" <br /> subsidiaries utay have been owners or operators of the referred sites during the past five years. <br /> Please call D.D.A.. Diane Kilcoyne with three dates and times in the week of August 4,and two <br /> dates/times the week of August 10 that you will be available, so that we can coordinate with <br /> EHD staffs time and availability. <br /> Meanwhile, I hope that all of the above-referenced Unocal sites can make great strides in coming <br /> into compliance with the laws of the State of California.
