and water-tight protective vault box will be installed on the top of each well The moni-
toring wells will be surveyed for location and elevation (relative to mean sea level
datum) by a licensed surveyor
Well Development
The groundwater monitoring wells will be developed after installation and prior to the
first sampling event The wells will be developed by pumping until the water removed
from the well is relatively free of sediment
Groundwater Sampling Procedures
Groundwater sampling will be performed using techniques approved by the Regional
Water Quality Control Board. The sampling procedure consists of first measuring the
water level in each well, and checking each well for the presence of separate-phase
hydrocarbons using a clear Teflon bailer If none are detected, the wells will be purged
of a minimum of three to four casing volumes of water (or until dryness) After
purging, the wells are allowed to partially recover prior to sampling
During purging, temperature, pH, and electrical conductivity will be monitored until
stable in order to collect a representative sample Groundwater samples will be
collected using a Teflon bailer and placed into appropriate EPA-approved containers
The samples will be labeled, logged onto chain-of-custody documents, and transported
on ice to the laboratory
Decontamination Procedures and Containment
All augers and downhole sampling equipment will be steam-cleaned between bonngs
Groundwater sampling equipment will be steam-cleaned between wells
Soil cuttings generated during drilling will be placed on plastic sheeting Development
and purge water will be contained in labeled drums at the site Soil samples will be
collected from the cuttings and analyzed to determine appropriate disposal Well
development and purge water will be pumped out of the drums and transported by a
licensed hauler to an approved disposal facility
Laboratory Procedures
Selected soil samples from the well borings and groundwater samples from all wells will
be analyzed in the laboratory for the presence of total petroleum hydrocarbons calcu-
lated as gasoline (TPH-g), and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX
compounds) Analysis will be performed by the purge-and-trap technique with final
3104001\WORKPLN C-2 August 6,1993
