I
' 16 June 2004
AGE-NC Project No 95-0173
' ethyl tert butyl ether(ETBE), 1,2-dichloroethane(1,2-DCA)and ethylene-dibromide(EDB)
by EPA Method 5030/8260B
' 3.0. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION/IN-SITU AIR SPARGE SYSTEM
' Between 09 September 2003 and 03 November 2003, SVE remediation was in operation at the site
utilizing a Solleco Ecat 250 catalytic converter vapor extraction system to apply an induced vacuum
to wells VW-1 through VW-4, during SVE operation, IAS remediation was continued with air
spargmg through well AW-1B SVE and IAS procedures for the site were described in the AGE-
prepared Remedial Action Work Plan dated 30 December 1998, and approved by the SJCEHD by
letter dated 20 April-1999
,Lower,
en 03 and 17 November 2003, all SVE and IAS operations were temporarily suspended at the
that the cata ytic oxidizer SVE system could be replaced with a more energy efficient,
rative vacuum blower and carbon canister system, the new SVE system comprised of one 41/2-
regenerative vacuum blower and two-1,000 pound carbon canisters SVE system
ment procedures for the site were described in the AGE-prepared Proposed Modifications
Vapor Extraction System, dated 03 November 2003, and approved by the SJCEHDby_lcttc
0 December 2003 _ -- - ----- - —
Between 17 November 2003 and 30 December 2003, SVE remediation at the site was resumed
utilizing the above referenced regenerative vacuum blower and carbon canister system by applying
an induced vacuum to wells VW-1 through VW-4, during SVE operation, IAS remediation was
continued with air sparging through well AW-2B
3 1 REMEDIATION SYSTEM PROCEDURES
rA manifold network of two-inch diameter, schedule 80 PVC piping is installed underground from
SVE wells VW-1 through VW-7 to the inlet of the SVE remediation system
In order to monitor efficiency of the SVE system, 1) a Magnehelic vacuum gauge (Dwyer DS-200
flow sensor) was installed prior to the inlet of the SVE unit so that air flow is monitored, the flow
rate was determined from the measured differential pressure and the piping diameter using a
nomograph (Appendix B), 2) SVE air flow of the influent and effluent streams were monitored
routinely for the presence of organic vapor using an organic vapor analyzer(OVA) equipped with
a photo-ionization detector(PID Thermo Environmental 580B, 10 0 eV,calibrated to isobutylene),
and 3) influent and effluent air flow vapor stream samples were collected from sampling ports
1
Advanced CcoEnvironmental,Inc
I
