• i <br /> . 18 October 1995 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0173 <br /> Page 4 of 5 <br /> 6 Store the samples under ice and transport the samples in a chilled ice chest to a State certified <br /> laboratory for analysis <br /> 7 Screen soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization <br /> detector (PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene <br /> 8 Log bonngs in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System <br /> 9 Selected soil samples will be analyzed for TPH-g, volatile aromatics (BTE&X), and total lead <br /> in accordance with the appropriate EPA methods <br /> 10 Backfill each probing using a concrete-bentonite slurry in the entire depth of the probing <br /> 11 Cuttings generated during drilling activities will be placed on plastic sheeting on-site <br /> Rinseate will be containenzed in properly labeled D O T model 17H 55-gallon drums, and <br /> stored on- site in an area inaccessible to the general public Disposal alternatives will be <br /> evaluated based on results of soil analyses <br /> 4 2 INSTALLATION OF GROUND WATER MONITORING WELLS <br /> • For the installation of ground water momtonng wells, the following procedures will be performed (if <br /> necessary) <br /> I Continue drilling of soil borings to a depth of approximately 70 feet bsg Borings will be <br /> sampled at five-foot intervals <br /> 2 Complete each soil boring as 2-inch diameter monitoring wells using 20 feet of 0 020 slotted <br /> PVC screen Proposed monitoring well design is illustrated in Figure 3 <br /> 3 Survey the top of each well casing to determine the elevation relative to existing wells <br /> 4 No sooner than 48 hours after installation, measure to the nearest 0 01 foot, the static water <br /> level in the new wells <br /> 5 Using a dedicated bailer or submersible pump, surge and purge all wells At least three well <br /> volumes of water will be removed from each well to stabilize temperature, pH, and <br /> conductivity, ctabilizatinn narameters vunll be measured at one or two-gallon intervals <br /> Samples will be collected using polyethylene disposable bailers, samples will be collected in <br /> 40-m1 VOA vials and 1-eight ounce amber jar <br /> 6 Label and log water samples on a chain-of-custody form <br /> 7 Store the samples in a chilled container and transport under chain-of-custody procedure to <br /> a state-certified laboratory for analysis Water samples will be analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d, <br /> BTE&X, and Total Lead in accordance with EPA methods 503018015, 8015 modified for <br /> diesel, and 602, respectively <br /> i <br />
