Background:
On November 17, 1989, Kaprealian Engineering, Inc. (KEI)
collected soil samples following the removal of two fuel
storage tanks and one waste oil tank at the referenced site.
The soil samples under the fuel storage tanks were collected
at depths ranging from 15.5 to 16. 5 feet. The soil sample
under the waste oil tank was collected at a depth of 9.5
feet. All soil samples were analyzed by Sequoia Analytical
Laboratory in Redwood City, California. The samples under
the fuel storage tanks were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline, benzene, toluene, xylenes
and ethylbenzene (BTX&E) , tetraethyl lead (TEL) , and
ethylene dibromide (EDB) . Analytical results showed TPH
ranging from non-detectable to 98 ppm, benzene levels
ranging from non-detectable to 1.6 ppm, TEL ranging from
non-detectable to 0. 17 ppm, and EDB levels ranging from non-
detectable to 15 ppb, except for sample B2 , which showed TPH
levels of 6, 500 ppm, benzene levels of 70 ppm, EDB levels of
1, 000 ppb, and TEL at 1.4 ppm. The soil sample from under
the waste oil tank was analyzed for total extractable
petroleum hydrocarbons (TEPH) , BTX&E, 8010 and PCB using
method 8080, and metals - cadmium, chromium, lead and zinc.
Laboratory analyses showed non-detectable TEPH, metals
ranging from non-detectable to 25 ppm, with non-detectable
levels of all other analytes. Laboratory results are
summarized in Tables 1 and 2 attached. Laboratory analyses
and Chain of Custody documentation are also attached.
