Boring locations may
be adjusted in the field, based on subsurface obstructions and general field conditions. The sampling rig
will drive a 24nch-diameter by 2-foot-long Minless steel barrel lined with 2-inch-diameter by 64nch-long
brass sample tubes or 2400t long Gear plastic tubing at each location.
Soil samples will be collected from the borings at 15 feet BGS. The 15400t sample will be collected in
rtaWe soil approximately 3 feet beneath the end of each of the three USTs. All sampling equipment will be
steam cleaned prior to sampling the soil at each interval. Each sea sample will be screened for
hydrocarbon vapors using a photoionization detector(PID). Soils encountered during dating will be logged
using the Unitled Soil Classification System by a Fluor Daniel GTI field geologist, working under the
supertson of a California registered geologist. One sample tube from each sampving interval will be
sealed with Teflon sheets, capped, taped, labeled, and placed on ice in an insulated container. Each
sample will be analyzed by a Site-certified analytical laboratory for benzene, toluene, ethyibenzene and
xylenes(BTEX),methyl tert butyl-ether(MTBE).and total petroleum hydrocarbons-a"asaline(fPH-G)by
EPA methods 802018015 modified, and Total Lead follovAng EPA method 6010.
Using the geoprvbe technology,no soil will be generated during sampling. Water generated by steam
cleaning will be contained and temporarily stored on site In DOT-approved 55-gallon drums pending
characterization and disposal.
TASK 3: GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
Due to the shallow depth to groundwater, expected at the sl3e,groundwater may be encountered in the
boreholes_ If there is sufficient groundwater recharge in the boreholes following extraction of the geopobe
samp!5V rods, water samples will be collected from two water-bearing;bodPU5 and analyzed for BTEX,
MTSE.and TPH-G using EPA methods 8020/8015 modiftd, if detected, the presence of MTBE in the
groundwater will be confirmed using EPA method 8250.
TASK 4,1 REPORT PREPARATION
Fluor Daniel GTI will prepare a report Summartdng the data collected under the scope of work detailed
above. The report will document the methods and results of the work, summarize laboratory analytical
rosults, and includo appropriate maps. Following submittal of the summary report,Robert H.Lee and
Associates will submit the Tank Reline Permit Application for review and approval by the SJCDHS.
Cqb*BLA!
pre.Terds-Refl"Sed A msnt WOW PIM 2
FApau:ry 3,198
Tho SmWwW Cwparation,4501 Pershing Avenue,Stacktm,CA 2
