Executive Summary 3
• Southland Store No 17334,4501 North Pershing Avenue,Stockton California August 10, 1998
collected near the existing USTs, strong hydrocarbon vapors are not likely to be enountered during the
removal of the USTs Soil samples will be collected beneath each end of the three USTs at the
direction and observation of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health
Division (SJCEHD) Samples will be analyzed for BTEX and TPH-G by EPA methods 8015/8020 and
the oxygenates TBA, MTBE, DIPS, ETBE, TAME by EPA method 8260
Following removal of the existing USTs at the site, construction activity will begin to install the new USTs
and dispenser Island at the site The new tanks will be Installed on the southwestern portion of the
property with the new fuel dispensers placed slightly southwest of the existing dispensers
Approximately 622 cubic yards of soil will be generated during the excavation of the new tank pit The
soil generated is not expected to be impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons since the new tank pit
location will be located upgradient from the old tank pit and source of the hydrocarbon release Soil
samples will be collected to characterize the soil A majority of the soil will be used to backfill the old
tank excavation Based on the hydrocarbon concentrations in the samples collected from the soil
stockpile, the remaining soil will either be hauled to a local landfill or a licensed waste disposal facility
Future Activities at the Site
A well search will be conducted to locate all water supply wells within a 2,000-foot radius of the site
Information will be reviewed at the Department of Water Resources in Sacramento, California and the
local municipal water supply company A door-to-door well search may be conducted if deemed
necessary One double-nested well will be installed near the source area to replace wells MW-1 and
MW-1A
The replacement of the existing tanks and associated fuel dispensers will effectively remove the source
of hydrocarbons at the site It is proposed that the current monitoring well system be used to monitor
dissolved hydrocarbons beneath the site If, following two quarters of monitoring and sampling
following removal of the existing USTs, hydrocarbon and MTBE concentrations decrease in the off-site
and on-site monitoring wells and if no water supply wells are found to be in hydraulic communication
with the existing monitoring wells, site closure will be proposed If hydrocarbon and MTBE
concentrations do not decrease, further plume delineation, including installation of a downgradient well,
and active remediation may be required
17334EXE LTR
FLUOR DANIEL GTI
