Workplan for Underground Storage Tank Upgrade 4
Southland Store No 17334 4501 North Pershing Avenue,Stockton,California August 10, 1998
BTEX and TPH-G by EPA Methods 8015/8020 modified and the oxygenates TBA, MTBE, DIPE, ETBE,
and TAME following EPA Method 8260
Groundwater Monitoring Well Abandonment
Prior to the tank removal groundwater monitoring wells MW-1 and MW-1A will be destroyed following
guidelines set forth in California Department of Water Resources Bulletins 74-81 and 74-90 for well
destruction Permits for the well destruction will be applied for from the SJCPHS The casing of each
well will be drilled out to total depth of the well borehole to remove all annulus material using truck-
mounted drill rig equipped with 8-inch diameter hollow stem augers The resultant boreholes will be
grouted with neat cement using a tremie pipe The wells will be destroyed to prevent possible damage
which may occur during removal of the USTs and subsequent excavation
All well-related materials, including well casings, well boxes, and associated concrete will be
segregated from the well annulus material and transported to a local landfill
Additional Site Assessment
Following completion of the fuel system upgrade at the site, a work plan will be submitted to the
SJCDEH for the installation of one dual-nested well near the source area to replace wells MW-1 and
MW-1A
An additional well may be installed to further characterize the downgradient extent of the dissolved
hydrocarbon plume Installation of a downgradient well is proposed to be deferred until after two to
three quarters of groundwater monitoring have been completed following underground storage tank
upgrades, to evaluate if hydrocarbon source removal (replacement of the underground storage tanks)
will stimulate natural attenuation of hydrocarbons downgradient from the source area Possible future
well locations will be proposed to the SJCDEH separately
• 17334SJC LTR
FLUOR DANIEL GTI
`A
