CLEARWATER
G R O U P, I N C .
Eiiviron metrtal Services
December 5, 1997
Mr. Harlan Knoll
San Joaquin County PHS/EHD .
PO Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
PAYMENT
Re: Workplan for Well Abandonment RIEC :
4555 North Pershing Ave. Stockton CA DEC 1.5 '997
Dear Mr. Knoll, PUBLIC HAEOA TH COUNTY C9
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH W&ON
This letter workplan for well abandonment is written in anticipation of a favorable response by the
Regional Board and SJC PHS/EHD of our recent petition for closure of the referenced site. This
workplan describes the work required to destroy and abandon 5 monitoring wells and 1 vapor
extraction well, the final stage of site work required at this site.
Scope of Work
As specified above Clearwater intends to abandon 5 groundwater monitoring wells and 1 vapor
extraction well. The monitoring wells are 2 inches in diameter and are between 40 - 42 feet in
depth. The vapor well is also 2 inches in diameter and 28.5 feet in depth. The well abandonment
work will be performed in accordance with state and county well abandonment and destruction
procedures. Clearwater proposes to pressure grout these wells using a hollow stem auger drill rig
and compressor system. A-bentonite grout seal will be injected into the well to approximately 5
feet below grade. The well casing from.5 feet below grade to the surface will be removed by
overdrilling and filled to approximately b" to 12" below grade with the bentonite grout. The
borehole will be finished with concrete to grade.
Reporting
The well abandonment work shall be documented in a letter report to your office The report shall
contain a write up of the work performed and will describe abandonment methods and seals used.
I
520 Third Street,Suite 104 & Oakland,California 94607 ♦ Telephone 510-893-5160 • Fax 510-893-5947
