gLarcn <br /> FM ' af <br /> t <br /> February 3, 1993 <br /> FES 0 8 1993- <br /> Ms. <br /> 993Ms. Brooke Birkie ENVIRONMENTAL MEALTH <br /> Neumiller & Beardslee PERMIfijaERVICES <br /> 509 West Weber Avenue, Fifth Floor <br /> Stockton, CA 95201-3020 <br /> Dear Ms. Birkie: <br /> RESULTS OF PRELIMINARY SITE ASSESSMENT OF THE FORMER CARDLOCK <br /> GASOLINE STATION IN STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA <br /> Enclosed please find the final report detailing the findings of the Preliminary Site <br /> Assessment including soil and groundwater sampling and analysis conducted at the former <br /> Cardlock Gasoline Station located at 4555 North Pershing Avenue in Stockton, California. <br /> This report describes the results of the analysis of soil and groundwater samples collected <br /> during the construction of the five monitor wells at the subject property by McLaren/Hart. <br /> In addition, the report also presents the agency record review of nearby sites. The <br /> Preliminary Site Assessment was conducted to better define the vertical and horizontal <br /> extent of soil contamination previously detected at the property and to define the extent of <br /> groundwater impact. <br /> The five monitor wells were drilled and constructed to an approximate depth of 40 feet <br /> below ground surface. Concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline <br /> were detected in the soil samples collected from borings MW2, MW3, MW4, and MW5 at <br /> 25 and 30 feet below ground surface at a maximum concentration of 420 milligrams per <br /> kilogram (mg/kg) in MW4 at 25 feet below ground surface. Benzene, toluene, <br /> ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) compounds were also detected in the soil samples <br /> collected from borings MW2, MW3 and MW4. The maximum benzene concentrations were <br /> 0.58 mg/kg and 0.59 mg/kg at 25 and 30 feet below ground surface, respectively in the soil <br /> samples collected from boring MW4. <br /> Groundwater was encountered during drilling at approximately 32 feet below grade and <br /> groundwater elevations stabilized to approximately 30.5 feet below grade. BTEX <br /> compounds were detected in groundwater samples collected from monitor wells MW2,MW3 <br /> and MW4.
