r$- <X CLEARWATER G R O U P, I N C j7:-r r 7 X Enviionmi,nfal Serviccs DEC 2 4 1997 ENT ML December 23, 1997 F, ,I,'gi6 T J SERV1, Mr Harlan Knoll San Joaquin County -PHS/EHD PO Box 388 Stockton, CA 95201-0388 Re Boettcher-Western Properties - 4555 Pershing Ave, Stockton, CA Well Abandonment Work- Request for Final Closure Documentation Dear Mr Knoll, As per your recent conversation with Kelly Stradinger of Boettcher-Western Properties, Clearwater was authorized to implement the well abandonment at the above referenced facility On December 19, 1997 Clearwater and their subcontractor Mitchell Drilling Environmental (MDE), a licensed California drilling contractor, performed the monitoring well and vapor extraction well abandonment at the site This letter documents the well destruction activities A total of 219 feet of vertical piping was abandoned using Basalite, a neat cement The cement was mixed in accordance with the manufacturers specifications with a 1 10 ratio of Basahte to water The monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-4 & MW-5) and vapor extraction well (VW-1), as shown in Figure 1, were abandoned in place using pressure grouting and over-drilling methods The wells were grouted using between 80 - 90 pounds per square inch (PSI) of pressure The first five feet of each well was aver-drilled using a modified bit to remove the road boxes and rings and the first five feet of vertical piping The void was filled with the cement mix and finished to grade with concrete The amount of grout required to fill the wells is shown on Table 1 As I mentioned to you during our telephone conversation of 12/17/97 one drum of purge water remained at the site The representative water sample results from the most recent groundwater sampling event were non-detect for all parameters analyzed, including BTEX, TPHgas, and MTBE 520 Third Street,Suite 104 o Oakland,California 94607 o Telephone 510-893-5160 o Fax 510-893-5947
