CLEARWATfR1,, ,
tn
G R O U P, I N C
Environmental Services
Mr Harlin Knoll August 20, 1997
San Joaquin County PHS/EHD
304 East Weber
Stockton, CA 95201
Re 4555 North Pershing Avenue, Stockton
Dear Harlin,
It has been awhile since our last conversation, I hope your leave proved productive - welcome
back?
As you may already be aware, Ms Jeanna Hudson, Clearwater project manager for the referenced
site, is no longer with our organization For the time being, the responsibilities for maintaining the
progress made through the efforts of Ms Hudson and yourself are in my hands I write this note
to you this morning to document recent conversations between you and Jeanna and to share some
of my thoughts regarding appropriate future activities at this location
Your most recent conversations with Jeanna center around those tasks required to bring this file to
closure In light of the current and historic concentrations of contaminants measured at this site,
and the degree of scrutiny applied to site-specific environmental conditions, consideration of
closure is appropriate The file, however, shows that recent conversations condition closure on the
installation of an additional monitoring well (by the property owner or by the managers of the site
assessment under way at the nearby 7-11 convenience store) and the completion of a search of
water supply wells within a 2000 foot radius of the facility Not being present during your
conversations with Jeanna, I am somewhat at a loss as to why closure is being conditioned on the
results of these additional activities I apologize for my ignorance, though hope that the
perspective I provide in this letter may be of use in the fine-tuning of the scope of the final activities
at this site I include several observations in the paragraphs that follow in order to initiate a
dialogue that I hope will result in the timely attainment of a productive end-point for both the
County and Boettcher Western Properties
520 Third Street,Suite 104 o Oakland,California 94607 o Telephone 510-893-5160 o Fax 510-893-5947
