4 <br /> CLEARWATER <br /> G R O U P, I N C <br /> Environmental Services <br /> Mr Harlan Knoll October 10, 1997 <br /> San Joaquin County PHS/EHD <br /> P O Box 388 <br /> Stockton, CA 95201-0388 G h3'-' F E LP)" <br /> Re 4555 North Pershing Avenue, Stockton OCT 13 1997 <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH <br /> Dear Mr Knoll, <br /> PERMIT / SERVICES <br /> This letter report transmits information supporting the request to formally close the underground <br /> storage tank case at the referenced location This letter contains the information we have discussed <br /> in our recent telephone conversations, as well as the items called out in the checklists you faxed to <br /> me on September 29 A permit application for the abandonment of the existing monitoring wells <br /> will be forwarded to you following your review and approval of the presented material <br /> Background <br /> The property is presently unoccupied, and serves as a driveway for the adjacent Venetian Square <br /> Shopping Center The site was previously operated as a cardlock service station The service <br /> station was taken out of service in the late 1980's Surrounding land use is primarily commercial <br /> A Southland Corporation (Southland) 7-11 convenience store is located approximately 100 feet <br /> east of the subject site <br /> A limited subsurface investigation was conducted in 1991 As reported in the July 31, 1991 TMC <br /> Environmental, Inc Environmental Site Assessment report, results of analysis of soil samples <br /> indicated the presence of motor fuel contamination A report prepared by TreaTek, Inc on January <br /> 8, 1992 documents the removal of three 12,000 gallon underground storage tanks (USTs) from the <br /> site in January, 1992 The TreaTek report indicates that the tanks previously held leaded and <br /> unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel Soil sampling conducted following the removal of the USTs <br /> indicated the presence of motor fuel contamination Laboratory analysis indicated that a single <br /> sample (sample ID UGS) contained elevated concentrations of fuel hydrocarbons Sample UGS <br /> was collected from beneath the unleaded UST According to later McLaren/Hart reports, the soil <br /> 520 Third Street,Suite 104 o Oakland,California 94607 o Telephone 510-893-5160 o Fax 510-893-5947 <br />
