( EA) proposes to do at : Pershing Avenue and
Robinhood Drive, Stockton, California.
EA has conducted several hundred soil vapor contamination
assessments ( SVGA) nationwide with many in California and the
Central Valley in particular, a general approach to the Stockton
site would be as follows:
- Collect shallow ( 3 to 5 feet ) soil vapor samples, from
the area which surrounds the storage tanks, also develop
one, or more if necessary, vertical profiles( s ) near the
tank field ( to 10{ or ground water level ) .
- Collect at least one vertical profile vapor sample from
the waste oil tank area .
- Collect 3 to 5 shallow soil vapor samples from points
along product lines especially in areas near joints in
lines.
- Collect any additional samples as may be appropriate,
such as locations along property boundary where the site
adjoins another property with fuel storage.
-- If and when contamination is found, the extent of that
contamination would be evaluated by extending the SVCA
survey with additional points in locations stepped out
from any contaminated points. This allows for more
efficient placement of borings and monitoring wells when
required.
The SVCA methodology uses 5/8--inch steel rods with slotted tips
that are hand driven utilizing an 8 pound harnmer to the desired
depth . Once at depth a vacuum pump is used to purge soil. vapor
from the probe and to ensure that a sample is representative.
The vacuum pressure reading from the purging apparatus is then
BALTIMORE 0 CHICAGO 0 CINCINNATI 0 LINCOLN ❑ NEW YORK 11 SAN FRANCISCO
