Box 5004
San Ramon, CA 94583-0804
Re: Chevron Service Station #r96465
North Pershing Ave. and Robinhood Dr.
Stockton, California
WA Job #4-305-01 i
Kj
Dear Mr.Randall: tâA
Weiss Associates(WA)collected ground water samples from three monitoring wells on
July 19, 1989 as part of the quarterly ground water monitoring program at Chevron Service
Station #96465 in Stockton, California (Figures 1 and 2). Ground water samples from
monitoring wells MW-2, MW-4 and MW--5 contained hydrocarbons at historically high
.,,. concentrations. On June-27,1989 and July 6,1989,water in wells MW-2.MVY-4,and MW-5 was
black and odorous. This watisr was purged, but no samples were taken at those times.
GROUND WATER SAMPLING AND FIELD OBSERVATIONS
On June 27, 1989,WA environmental technician Tim Wickens measured water levels
in all seven site welts and attempted to collect ground water samples. Wells Mvv 1,MW-3,MW
6 and MW-7 were dry and therefore not sampled. Water purged from wells MW 2,MW-4 and
MW-5 was black and had a sulfur-like odor;therefore, water samples were not collected. On
July 6, 1989,Tim Wickens returned to the site to resample all wells. The water purged from
wells MW-2,MW-4 and MW-5 remained 'black and odorous and therefore, samples were again
not taken. On iuly 19,1989,Tim Wickens again attempted to sample the site wells. Between
0.5 and 16 gallons were purged from wells MW-2,MW-4 and MW-5. Since the purge water from
these wells was clear, water samples were collected. The origin of the previously observed
black color is undetermined, but it may be relat,-d to the high hydrocarbon concentrations
found in the water samples. Monitoring wells MW-1,MW-3,MW-6 and MW-7 were not sampled
because they contained insufficient water for sample collection.
A Division of Awr,jfierrd As.soci,Nra loargrrrurled
