This letter was undated and received by PHS/EHD on August
11, 1994.
The letter requested that the existing well on this site (drinking water well)
be used for the purpose of monitoring potential contamination to the groundwater
in the area.,
As per telephone conversation between Chuck Altree and Michael Collins, RENS,
this domestic well could not adequately serve this purpose. This well, which is
approximately 120 yards from the former tank pit,is not close enough, and not
constructed for this purpose.
As directed in the letter from PHS/EHD to Mr. Frank Hubbart of the Linden Unified
School District, dated April 27, 1993, a groundwater investigation is required
due to the fact that notable soil contamination has been documented below 80
feet. Seasonal high groundwater is 85 feet below ground surface according to
"San Joaquin Flood Control Hap" (Spring 1986) .
As per phone conversation with Chuck Altree and Michael Collins, RENS, on April
7, 1994, the groundwater investigation may begin with the construction of one
monitoring well. This well may be constructed in the former tank pit or in a
verified downgradient position.
A workplan shall be submitted to PHS/EHD by October 14, 1994, for monitoring well
construction.
If there are any questions, please contact Michael Collins, REHS, at 209-468-
0338.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmenta,l H alth Division
i` r t
'chae Collins, REHS Diane M.
