Box 2009 (1601 East Hazelton Avenue) Stockton,California 95201
ca
(209) 468-3400
July 30, 1990
Mr. Greg Clark n
Linden School District Superintendent
LJ
Linden Unified School District
18527 E. Main St.
Linden, CA 95236
RE: Waterloo Elem. School IN REPLY REFER TO SITE CODE: 1710
7007 N. Pezzi Road
Linden 95236
This letter summarized the issues discussed at the July 23, 1990
meeting held at 100 N. Jacktone Rd. , and attended by
representatives from San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) , Linden Unified School
District (LUSD) and Waterwork Environmental Consultants.
It is our agency's understanding that the major consideration at
present is the School District' s limited resources available to
clean up the contamination identified on removal of the gasoline
tank at Waterloo School. In view of these constraints, the
following issues were discussed:
1. The proposal submitted by Waterwork involves the use of
excavation for both identification of the extent of
contamination and remediation of the site. The excavated
soil would be treated by aeration on school district
owned property adjacent to the school. The advantage of
this approach is that some source removal would be
performed at the same time as subsurface investigation to
identify the extent of contamination. In the best case
all of the contamination would be removed and no further
remediation would be required. In the worst case, the
contamination may extend deeper and wider than the limits
of excavation equipment causing not only the health and
safety hazards associated with extensive excavation but
disruption of facility operations. Further subsurface
investigation and remediation would still be necessary.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
