The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has received Quarterly Status
Report— Third and Fourth Quarters 2007 dated March 12, 2008, and Additional Site Assessment
Addendum, dated March 14, 2008,both resubmitted by Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE)
on your behalf for the above-referenced site. Upon reviewing the report for the last two quarters
of 2007, the EHD noted that depth-to-groundwater measurements were not reported during the
sampling event on August 31, 2007. Please provide the data. Also, it appears that the
groundwater flow direction for the November 29, 2007, sampling event is toward the south
instead of the northeast. Please review and revise Figure 3 of the report, if appropriate. Correct
Table 2 analytical results for groundwater samples collected from domestic well DW-1 to
indicate that groundwater samples collected on August 31, 2007, were not analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel (TPH-d); the current and historical reporting limit
for ethyl benzene is 0.5 micrograms per liter (µg/L); and groundwater samples collected on
November 29, 2007, were not analyzed for di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether
(ETBE), tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA),and 1,2-dibromoethane(EDB).
The EHD approves the installation of monitoring wells MW-5, MW-6, and MW-7, each screened
between fifty-five and seventy feet below surface grade (bsg); and although the EHD
recommended by letter dated January 10, 2008, that all four wells be screened at the same
interval, the EHD approves the installation of MW-8 screened between sixty and seventy feet bsg.
AGE has recommended the termination of collecting groundwater samples for analysis from
domestic well DW-1 since contaminants of concern have not been detected in any samples.
Because the domestic well is located down gradient of the former underground storage tanks
(USTs), and there are no sentinel wells being monitored to protect the domestic well, the EHD
cannot approve discontinuation or a reduction in sampling the domestic well. Analyze
groundwater samples collected from DW-1 for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel
(TPH-d), TPH quantified as gasoline(TPH-g), benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes
(BTEX); and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE).
