(AGE) on your behalf. During a telephone conversation with William Little of. AGE
on February 23, 2005,Nuel Henderson of EHD expressed concern over the impact the
calculated mass of 1,749 pounds of gasoline will have at this site. It was agreed that AGE
will recalculate the mass of gasoline, and if approximately the same mass is calculated,
then AGE will prepare a model of the effects on groundwater from the leaching of organic
contaminants through the vadose zone.
EHD is also concerned about the high concentrations of trichloroethene (TCE) and
tetrachloroethene (PCE) found in soil samples associated with the former waste oil
underground storage tank (UST). Although TCE and PCE were detected during the
removal of the former waste oil UST at concentrations as high as 490 micrograms per
kilogram (µg/kg) and 2,100 µg/kg, respectively, these compounds have not been included
in any additional investigations at this site.
Prior to destroying the domestic well located approximately ninety feet southeast of the
former UST system on October 16, 2000, a groundwater sample was collected, and upon
analysis, was determined to contain 280 micrograms per liter(µg/L) total petroleum
hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-diesel), 1.0 µg/L toluene, and 1.1 µg/L xylenes. The
laboratory report noted that the TPH-diesel appeared to be fresh or weakly modified diesel.
This domestic well was estimated to have a total depth of approximately 160 feet below
surface grade. Considering the close proximity of at least five other domestic wells, please
have your consultant review all relevant data and show that the occurrence of diesel in this
well does not represent an impact to deeper groundwater resulting from your unauthorized
release.
