EHD comments on the SCM
as follows:
• The lithologies on the cross sections do not appear to match the text descriptions and minor
lithologic discrepancies exist between A-A' and C-C'. Please resolve these inconsistencies.
• The vertical extent of contamination for 1,2-dichloroethane,methyl tertiary-butyl ether, total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline, and tertiary amyl methyl ether in the former underground
storage tank(UST)pit still must be defined.
• The lateral extent of impacted soil and groundwater appears to be delineated, but the vertical
extent of impacted groundwater in the former UST area has not been delineated. The observed
impact to groundwater in monitoring well MW-1 may be an effect of impacted soil in contact with
groundwater in the uppermost few feet of groundwater. Please submit a work plan by 19 January
2004 to vertically assess the known contaminants in the former UST area.
Laboratory analytical results are still not being electronically submitted to GeoTracker—the State Water
Resources Control Board database program. Water Code Section 13196,commonly referred to as
AB 2886,requires this. Electronic transmission of laboratory analytical results to GeoTracker must be
initiated immediately.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this letter, please contact Vicki McCartney, REHS,
by mail(address on letter head),by telephone at(209)468-3456,or by e-mail at vmccartney@sjcehd.com.
Donna Heran,REHS,Director
Environmental Health Department
7
Vicki McCartney,RETS Nuel C.Henderson,Jr.,RG
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
cc: Paul Dotson,AGE
James L.L.Barton,CVRWQCB
