Box 735 <br /> i Lockeford, California' 95237 ' f <br /> RE: Closure of a former waste oil ,pit site located at <br /> 8980 North Highway 12, Victor, California. <br /> Dear Mr. Rob Hoag, <br /> Enclosed please .1ind analytical -results for soil samples <br /> collected on February 25, and March 4, 1992 . Initially, five <br /> soil samples were collected on February 25 and were analyzed <br /> for oil, grease and lead, two samples collected on: March 4 <br /> were analyzed for oil, grease and total lead as requested by <br /> Ms. Linda Turkatte of the San Joaquin County Environmental <br /> Health Department <br /> On February 25, contaminated soil was excavated to <br /> ( obtain clean surfaces within the pit. Approximately 57 cubic <br /> yards of material (with a 30% swell factor) were removed, <br /> producing a pit 10 feet wide 'by 11 feet long and 14 feet <br /> deep. Hardpan was encountered between 9 to 14 feet. A <br /> sample was taken at 14 feet of a clean interface in the <br /> i bottom of the pit. One of five .samples points was clean of <br /> oil and grease. The " North wall was not contaminated. <br /> Results of the first round of sampling are shown in Table- 1 <br /> and Appendix A. <br /> Sediments of the Treehouse Nursery Site are : typical of <br /> this region of the San Joaquin Valley Basin. The site is <br /> situated on an alluvial fan in the `Central Valley Geomorphic <br /> Province of California. <br /> The unsaturated (vadose) zone is soil composed of silt. <br /> and sand, with an occasional clay lens. A silt and clay-rich <br /> sand of low moisture:: content was encountered to 15 feet. <br /> Silty-sand was encountered at 16 ' feet. A five foot thick <br /> hardpan is prevalent across the site, 10 to 15 feet below the <br /> surface. <br /> 1'.0. BOX 2242 • MERCED, CA 95344 (209) 384-1041 <br />
