Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoling (TPHG) and Toluene, Ethylbenzene
and Xylene. No benzene was reported in the groundwater samples.
• On May 30, 1995, JPCA constructed three monitoring wells on this
site, Figure 2 . Soil samples collected from these borings were
analyzed. On June 5, 1995, six days after the installation of the
wells, JPCA collected groundwater samples which were analyzed.
The soil and groundwater samples collected were analyzed for Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPHG) and Benzene, Toluene,
Ethylbenzene and Xylene (BTEX) . The groundwater samples were
analyzed for TPHG by EPA Method 8015 modified with purge and trap
preparation 5030 (GC/FID) with detection limits of 50ug/1. EPA
Method 602 was utilized for BTEX with a detection limit of 0. 5ug/l
as required by the SJCEHD.
The results of the analysis of the soil samples indicated minor
levels of contamination in parts per million (ppm) .
The results of the analysis of the groundwater samples in parts per
billion (ppb) are shown in Table 1.
TABLE; 1
June 1995 Groundwater Sample Analysis Results in ppb.
Sample ID TPHG B T E X
• MW-1 1, 400 8. 1 1.6 13 89
MW-2 2 , 100 33 ND ND 44
MW-3 13 , 000 120 22 130 920
ND--= NoE Detected
The concentrations of TPHG and BTEX in the groundwater were high
and actionable.
FIELD WORK
JPCA notified the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division
(SJCEHD) inspector 48 hours prior to initiation of field work. On
September 13 , 1996, John P. Cummings of JPCA collected groundwater
samples.
3
•
