rt
from bottom using the backhoe bucket and the trench eras refilled.
A location was selected .s4 east of the UST site, and the backhoe
dug a trench to 7 ' ; a strong petroleum odor and visible free
product was noted below 6 6". A soil sample was taken at 7 ' , and
the trench was refilled with removed spoil.
Using the hand auger , 3 borings were made north of the former
tank site: 19 north to a depth of 6 '6" ; 40 ' north to a depth of
6 ' y and 65 ' north to a depth of 7 '6". Contamination was noted in
all three auger hales~ and sell samples were taken from the last
two borings. All auger holes were filled with cement.
ADDENDUM TO WORK PLAN:
In an attempt to determine the lateral extent of the
contamination, it is proposed to extend the area of investigation
in all directions from the farmer US1 site by the fallowing
procedures using Del--Tech Inc. equipment & personal under the
supervision of Wna. Hunter' s RG:
1 . 7." OD solid stem flights, equipyud with a carbide bit , will
be driven to depths of between 10 & 15 foot , using a powered
rotary hammer.
7. Cuttings and core samples will be examined and described by
the geologist, and screened with a PID meter as necessary.
3. Total penetrations and locations of each boring will be
dependent upon results of the prior hole; based on previous data,
It 16& anticipated that groundwater will be encountered at
app rokimately 10 ' bLjl .
4. Soil samples may be taken 14 warranted by conditions
encountered during boring. Samples will tie obtained by driving a
properly prepared brass sleeve into the bottom df the hole.
Samples will be sealed , labeled , and preserved on ice pending
transmittal to the laboratory fur analysis.
5. Water samples may be taken as determined by conditions
encountered during field operations.
6. Upon completion of the work, each auger hole will be grouted
to the surface with cement. VVU 444 U) t.AA .
The number and locations of the bearings cannot be determined in
advance; it is hoped that the lateral limits of the plume can be
. established daring one day 's field work.
