•
University of California Soils publication, shows the soil types
in the area. The Tracy Gas field is about 2 miles to south; it
produces dry gas from sands of Upper Cretaceous age at depths of
41000 to 5,000 feet.
DEF'TH TO GROUNDWATER: Water was not encountered at a depth of S
feet during removal of the LUST, and is reported to be at about
10 ' bgl in the area. A review of semi-annual water table maps
prepared by the County Flood Control District indicate that the
water table has been as high as the surface In past years -- the
sprang of 1983 in particular; Plate V is a portion of the San
Joaquin County Flood Control Distract map showing lanes of equal
elevation. There are no water wells in the immediate area, and
therefore good control is lacking. As mentioned earlier , crops
are watered by open ditch , and domestic water is piped in. Plate
VI shows the locations of control wells used for constructing the
water level maps.
WATER DUALITY: Groundwater in this area is unsuited for domestic
use or watering livestock due to the high concentrations of
chlorides. Nitrates are 5mg/l , but boron is high, >2 mg/l .
Salt-tolerant crops such as alfalfa, tomatoes and beans can be
• grown, however.
DETAILS OF PRIOR WORD:: On august 7, 1991 , Jam Thorpe Oil removed
a 350 gallon UST which had contained leaded gasoline. The tank
was empty at the time of removal . There are no records
concerning when the tank was installed, or years it was in
service., but It had not been used at least since November, 198S,
when the Bank took possession of the property.
The removed tank was in very poor condition, and there was
visable contamination noted; refer to Exhibit B. A soil sample
was taken from beneath the site of the tank at a depth of B by a
Jim Thorpe Oil employee under the supervision of EHD personel ,
and transported under proper chain of custody, (see Exhibit C, )
to Weston Analytical for analysis. The sample was tested for
BTEX, TPH-G, EDB, and total lead. The results of those tests are
shown in Table I . There was no water or dampness observed in the
bottom cif the excavation at S feet.
The hole was filled in with the removed spoil to avoid possible
in3ury to humans or animals. A visit to the site on September 11
revealed no evidence of surface contamination or odors.
PROGRAM:
. Because groundwater 1n this area is approximately 10 feet below
2
