26 October 1998 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 97-0249 <br /> Page 3 of 5 <br /> mottled brown and gray, moist, fine to medium sand was encountered At depths in excess of 20 feet <br /> Ibsg, a mottled brown and red/brown, very moist fine sandy and or clayey silt was encountered <br /> Saturated soil was not encountered during probing of P5 through P9, however, very moist soil was <br /> encountered from P7 and P8 at 20 feet bsg Boring logs are included in Appendix A, general <br /> lithology beneath the site in cross sectional view is depicted on Figures 3 and 4 <br /> I <br /> 32 FIELD EVIDENCE OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL <br /> Faint to intense petroleum hydrocarbon odor was noted in duplicate soil samples collected from P5 <br /> through P8 at depths between 5 feet bsg and 15 feet bsg Petroleum hydrocarbon odor is noted on <br /> boring logs contained in Appendix A <br /> Organic vapor was detected in soil sample duplicates from P5 through P8 using a PID at <br /> I concentrations as high as 643 parts per million (ppm) Organic vapor field measurements are <br /> summarized on the boring logs contained in Appendix A <br /> 3 3 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES <br /> A total of fourteen soil samples were submitted to a DHS-certified laboratory (Alpha Analytical <br /> Laboratory Inc ) for analysis of TPH-g, TPH-d, BTEX, MTBE and fuel ox)genated compounds <br /> I (DIPE, TAME, ETBE and TBA) Utilizing EPA method 8015M, TPH-g was detected in soil <br /> samples collected from probe borings P5 through P9 at concentrations ranging as high as 1,700 parts <br /> per million (ppm, reported as milligrams per kilogram) TPH-d was detected in soil samples <br /> collected from P5 through P8 at concentrations ranging as high as 950 ppm, however, the laboratory <br /> reported the presence of hydrocarbons higher in molecular weight than diesel in the analysis of <br /> samples from P6 and P8 <br /> Utilizing EPA method 8020, BTE&X were detected in soil samples collected from P5 though P9 at <br /> concentrations ranging as high as 120 ppm MTBE was not detected in any of the analyzed soil <br /> Isamples <br /> Utilizing EPA method 8260, none of the ox}genated compounds were detected Analytical results <br /> of soil samples are summarized in Table 1 The laboratory report (Alpha Analytical Laboratory <br /> Batch No 98-0821-016 and KIFF Analytical Report No 12143) and chain-of-custody are included <br /> Iin Appendix B <br /> Arhanced GeoEnriranmental,Inc <br />
