26 October 1998
AGE-NC Project No 97-0249
mottled brown and gray, moist, fine to medium sand was encountered At depths in excess of 20 feet
Ibsg, a mottled brown and red/brown, very moist fine sandy and or clayey silt was encountered
Saturated soil was not encountered during probing of P5 through P9, however, very moist soil was
encountered from P7 and P8 at 20 feet bsg Boring logs are included in Appendix A, general
lithology beneath the site in cross sectional view is depicted on Figures 3 and 4
I
32 FIELD EVIDENCE OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
Faint to intense petroleum hydrocarbon odor was noted in duplicate soil samples collected from P5
through P8 at depths between 5 feet bsg and 15 feet bsg Petroleum hydrocarbon odor is noted on
boring logs contained in Appendix A
Organic vapor was detected in soil sample duplicates from P5 through P8 using a PID at
I concentrations as high as 643 parts per million (ppm) Organic vapor field measurements are
summarized on the boring logs contained in Appendix A
3 3 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES
A total of fourteen soil samples were submitted to a DHS-certified laboratory (Alpha Analytical
Laboratory Inc ) for analysis of TPH-g, TPH-d, BTEX, MTBE and fuel ox)genated compounds
I (DIPE, TAME, ETBE and TBA) Utilizing EPA method 8015M, TPH-g was detected in soil
samples collected from probe borings P5 through P9 at concentrations ranging as high as 1,700 parts
per million (ppm, reported as milligrams per kilogram) TPH-d was detected in soil samples
collected from P5 through P8 at concentrations ranging as high as 950 ppm, however, the laboratory
reported the presence of hydrocarbons higher in molecular weight than diesel in the analysis of
samples from P6 and P8
Utilizing EPA method 8020, BTE&X were detected in soil samples collected from P5 though P9 at
concentrations ranging as high as 120 ppm MTBE was not detected in any of the analyzed soil
Isamples
Utilizing EPA method 8260, none of the ox}genated compounds were detected Analytical results
of soil samples are summarized in Table 1 The laboratory report (Alpha Analytical Laboratory
Batch No 98-0821-016 and KIFF Analytical Report No 12143) and chain-of-custody are included
Iin Appendix B
Arhanced GeoEnriranmental,Inc
