i <br /> WHAT TO DO <br /> i The following actions must be taken <br /> immediately upon the discovery of <br /> remains at a construction site: <br /> fl <br /> a) Stop work immediately and <br /> contact the County Coroner. <br /> b) The Coroner has two working <br /> days to examine remains after <br /> being notified by the person <br /> responsible for the excavation. <br /> If the remains are Native <br /> ` American, the Coroner has 24 <br /> hours to notify the Native <br /> American Heritage <br /> i Commission. <br /> A RESOURCE GUIDE FOR: c) The Native American Heritage <br /> CORONERS Commission will immediately <br /> notify the person it believes to <br /> be the most likely descendent <br /> j NATIVE AMERICAN of the deceased Native <br /> MOST LIKELY DESCENDENTS American. <br /> CITY AND COUNTY PLANNERS d) The most likely descendent has <br /> 24 hours to make recommenda- <br /> PROPERTY OWNERS tions to the owner, or represen- <br /> tative, for the treatment or <br /> DEVELOPERS disposition, with proper <br /> dignity, of the remains and <br /> grave goods. <br /> e) If the descendent doesn't make <br /> a recommendations within 24 <br /> hours the owner may reinter <br /> the remains in an area of the <br /> property secure from further <br /> disturbance, or: <br /> ' If the owner doesn't accept the <br /> descendent's recommenda- <br /> tions, the owner or the <br /> descendent may request <br /> mediation by the Native <br /> American Heritage <br /> Commission. <br /> i <br />
