On April 14, 1998, EMCON advanced five geoprobe
borings and collected soil and water samples as presented in our April 8, 1998 workplan.
The workplan was previously approved by San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department. The purpose of the investigation was to characterize soil and shallow
' groundwater beneath Thornton Road along the proposed sanitary sewer route near the
intersection of Thornton Road and Walnut Grove Road in the city of Thornton.
FIELD ACTIVITIES
Geoprobe Sampling
Before initiating field activities, EMCON obtained the applicable drilling permits from
the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department.
On April 14, 1998, an EMCON geologist observed Gregg Drilling Company of
Martinez, California (C-57 License No. 485165), advance five exploratory soil borings
(GP-1 through GP-5) to a depth of 14 feet below ground surface (bgs) at the locations
shown on Figure 1.
The exploratory borings were advanced using Geoprobe equipment mounted on a
standard pick-up truck, and continuous soil samples were collected using a Macrocore
sampling device. The Macrocore is a 4-foot-long, 2-inch-diameter, stainless steel
SACVC:\THORNTON.DOC-96\cmetzinge:I
1
