Harlin Knoll [EH]
From : Jim Barton [jbarton@waterboards.ca.gov]
Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2008 11 :28 AM
To: Harlin Knoll [EH]
Subject: Fwd : Workplan for Ozone Bench Scale Study, 8606 Thornton Rd ,Stockton
OK Harlin , here it is . Thanks .
> > > Jim Barton 3 / 5 / 2008 10 : 10 AM > > >
Hi Harlin ,
I conducted a preliminary review of the 3 March 2008 document from Secor , which is
addressed to me for approval and cc ' d to you . I noticed that it also includes a scope
of work for installation of an ozone sparge well and field procedures for the well
installation . The reason given for constructing the single ozone sparge well now is to
collect soil and groundwater samples for the bench scale test . Water samples will be
collected through the auger using a bailer . Once the bench scale test is complete , they
will decide whether to install four additional ozone sparge wells . Seems to me that , if
they use an existing monitoring well to get a cleaner water sample and collect soil only
from a direct push boring , the cost will be less and the sample will be adequate for the
bench scale test . What do you think?
Please advise how you want to handle this workplan , my comments in my letter on the bench
scale test portion only , recommending they use a monitoring well for the water sample and
a direct push boring for the soil sample , and deferring the one well installation ( call
it a pilot study? ) approval to you . Or do you want to incorporate my comments in your
letter and tell Secor to wait for the results of the bench scale test before installing
the well ?
Thanks .
Jim
James L .
